Board Services

Board Services supports investors – including private equity companies, family offices and other investment companies.

And this already in the pre-investment phase in the search for suitable industry experts. The latter use their industry expertise, for example as part of commercial and technological due diligence, to help evaluate potential target companies. Following the successful takeover of companies, the companies receive support in filling advisory board positions in the portfolio companies.

Supervisory bodies and advisory boards

The appointment of advisory board members is also undertaken for family businesses. Even if not always required by law, advisory boards demonstrably create added value for family businesses, particularly when it comes to leading the management team and developing strategy. In general, challenging company situations are managed more successfully by active advisory boards.

Succession planning for executive and supervisory boards

Leadership changes rarely happen at the planned moment. A CFO leaves with immediate effect, a change of ownership calls the composition of the supervisory board into question, or a managing director retires. Companies that know their critical roles and have a plan for each of them can make calm and confident decisions in such moments.

We support supervisory boards, advisory boards and owners in planning succession with foresight. This starts with an analysis of the competencies within the board. We assess internal candidates objectively with our Management Assessment and, in parallel, sound out the external market early and discreetly, so that you have real options when it matters.

International network of industry experts

If control and supervisory bodies are required by law, our strong network means that executives from a wide range of sectors are immediately available. Among other things, we can draw on our many years of expertise in working with supervisory bodies to fill positions on supervisory boards (Germany) and boards of directors (Switzerland).

Frequently asked questions about Board Services

When should a supervisory board plan executive board succession?

We recommend reviewing succession for the executive board and key functions at least once a year rather than waiting until a vacancy is foreseeable. For plannable changes such as a retirement, a lead time of one to two years is advisable.

What is a skills matrix for the supervisory board?

A skills matrix shows which experience and capabilities the board already has and where gaps exist, for example in digitalisation, capital markets or transformation. It forms the basis for every targeted new appointment.

Does HAGER also fill advisory boards in family businesses and portfolio companies?

Yes. We fill supervisory boards, advisory boards and boards of directors for family businesses, corporations and private equity portfolio companies, both nationally and internationally through our Horton International network.
