HAGER The crisis as empowerment of women

The current study by the auditing company KPMG, the Global Female Leaders Outlook (GFLO) 2020, also attests that there is still a great need for action in business and politics. In it, KPMG examines the question of whether the corona crisis is an opportunity for more equality for women in represents economy and politics.

The pandemic as a potential catalyst for more equal opportunities

In order to capture the perspectives of female managers on overall and business management issues, the auditing firm KPMG, together with Management Circle AG, carried out the Global Female Leaders Outlook for the third time last year. The study counted 675 participants from 52 countries worldwide, including Germany with 46 participants. CEOs and chairmen, C-level executives and board members, department heads and other positions with management responsibility were interviewed.

“In an environment in which the right personnel for key roles is the central theme of success, diversity and inclusion also have a significant influence on entrepreneurial success,” explains Dr. Monica Becker, Business Unit Director Software at HAGER Executive Consulting and Sector Head IT & Digitalization at Horton Group International. The experienced manager, together with her HAGER colleagues, Angela Keuneke, Marketing Manager, and Yvonne Klein, Talent Acquisition, launched the HUB eQuality initiative at HAGER in 2020 and initiated a diversity and women's network.

Corona and the economy

The KPMG survey focused on the effects of the corona pandemic on the economy and companies. The same goes for the female participants surveyed’s own careers. The aim was to find out whether COVID-19 ultimately represents a catalyst for greater equality.

A key finding of the study is that top female managers see the crisis as an opportunity rather than just its negative effects. They are more optimistic than the male participants Global CEO Outlook 2020 by KPMG. One of the reasons for this could be that traditional approaches and decision-making processes in companies were put to the test under the lockdown conditions. "That's how we've always done it" and "similar to me' suddenly stopped working. This situation gives talented people, both women and men, better chances of being convincing with innovative proposals and taking on more responsibility.

Conclusion

The pandemic was a shock to the economy and society. But many companies have seen this crisis as an opportunity and have modernized outdated principles and approaches. Many female managers in particular recognize the opportunities that lie in the lockdown crisis, such as greater self-determination through mobile working and establishing a management style that suits them.
